Across York and North Yorkshire, our volunteer hosts provide accommodation for homeless people aged 16-24 from a single night up to 2 years in our Nightstop, Crashpad and Supported Lodgings schemes. Our volunteers enable us to run an essential service that ensures that young people are kept safe and supported when facing homelessness. We always need to recruit more hosts for both projects to be able to continue to meet demand. All hosts are paid full expenses.
Our Nightstop volunteer hosts provide a young person with a meal, a bed for the night and breakfast the next morning - to keep them safe at a time of crisis.

"The first young person we had was 17. She was just a young girl who was having a bit of a difficult time at home, she needed a place of safety and security."
Carl and Linda, Catterick Hosts.
"If you can provide a bed, an evening meal and a friendly face, then you can be a SASH host.
Colin and Wendy, Nightstop hosts.
"All the young people want is a normal, safe place."
Anne, Nightstop host.

Supported Lodgings
In York, we also run a Supported Lodgings project where a young person can live with a volunteer host for up to two years. This is for young people who are not able to live at home, but don't yet have the skills or the maturity to live on their own. Host who provide Supported Lodgings are usually also happy to host Crashpad placements.

"It has helped me get a life. I have my own place and responsibilities, if it wasn't for the help I don't know where I would be today."
Stuart, left Supported Lodgings aged 19.
"Every teenager is different, with different needs. That's what makes it so interesting and rewarding."
Barbara, Supported Lodings host.
"I feel that I can help the young people understand that there are things to look forward to."
Helen, Supported Lodings host.
